Members of Tax Fairness Oregon repeatedly spoke out against proposals to cut capital gains rates in Oregon this session. Months later, our capital gains tax remains intact–an important victory for the common good. The Senate Finance and Revenue Committee strategically bundled kicker reform with a capital gains cut in order to secure the votes of Republicans and the support of the business community. Fortunately, our members refused to stand quietly by. Drastic reductions in one of Oregon’s primary sources of revenue is not acceptable, they said, especially when deep cuts are already being made to public services.
